  • Use of specific software purchased for home /school use, e.g Grid Club. This is important as it encourages a cross between Playing and Learning Plearning
  • Independent exploration and gathering of new software and applications by learners
  • Personalisation of the device with appropriate Today screens, Games and Music, picture and video files
  • Completing set tasks or homework that the device assist with
  • Sharing ICT expertise with other members of the family
  • Use of the device in other locations around school such as playtime or lunchtime use…
  • Use of the device on trips to Museums or art galleries
  • Use of the device on outdoor field trips

Use @ home
Learners are reporting that the Handheld computer is being used regularly at home, using the device on the sofa, in the bedroom and if some of the repair reports are to be believed near the washing up bowl! . As it is small and does not require a desk or complicated set up, the device can be used in any room.  Favourite times for learning are reported as being between children's TV finishing and their favourite soap starting.  In some homes the Handheld is the only computer and has encouraged some family members to gain an interest in ICT. It is helping to bridge the digital divide.

Use @ Wightwick Manor
